Walking on Greenland’s ice sheet

The Greenland ice sheet is a vast body of ice covering 1,710,000 square kilometres roughly 80% of the surface of Greenland. It is the second largest ice body in the world, after the Antarctic Ice Sheet. The mean altitude of the ice is 2,135 metres (7,005 ft).[1] The thickness is generally more than 2 km (1.2 mi). Some scientists predict that climate change may be near a “tipping point” where the entire ice sheet will melt in about 2,000 years.[2] If the entire 2,850,000 cubic kilometres (684,000 cu mi) of ice were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 m (24 ft).[3]

Two Gold awards at the 2014 PX3 PARIS

I was anticipating and hoping for this… My monochrome series of the giraffes is one of my finest works as of yet and I am extremely happy they have been awarded with such a great prize.  The challenge represents my new journey to the world of color. My own color.. A long anticipated journey starts  the best way possible. :)

WINNER OF PX3, Prix de la Photographie Paris.

Nicolas Lotsos of Greece was awarded two Gold Awards – First Prizes- in the Professional category Nature/wildlife for the entries entitled, ” Giraffa Camelopardalis” and “The Challenge”. The jury selected PX3 2014’s winners from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries.

Off to the Arctic

I am only one week home and I am leaving tomorrow again for 2 weeks in the frozen arctic.  We will explore the ice world of  Greenland, sail through the icebergs, walk in the glaciers, maybe meet some wales along the way.

All these are fantastic and it is a dream come true but the hardest thing of all is to leave the best guy in the world behind. The relief is that he is in the hands of the best mom in the world and I know he is happy. See you both soon :)

Milano International Art exhibition

MIA  is over and I am back after 10 days in Milan. I was happy to see that the  photography level was very high and I am more happy that my work received so many great compliments. The booth was full every day  and the feedback has been great so far.  Haik Kourd and his team are still in Milan to cover the last day’s demands and  the deliveries of the sold artwork.

50th Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards.

I have received an email letting me know some great news. 9 of my images (3 in the b&W category and 6 in the portfolio of the year award) have reached the finals of WPOTY,
Co-owned from BBC and Natural History museum, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the longest-running and most prestigious nature photography competition in the world: All the finalists will have to send original and worked files for the final judging.

The challenge

Images will be coming in a slow pace as I will have to start prepare the photos for the upcoming exhibition in Milan on May 24th. Make the right choices, testing, final prints, gallery framing, shipping and all the logistics. And that’s a challenge.

The photo here is another kind of challenge and it is  from our last overwhelming photo safari.

Double award for the tree leopard

My new image “the tree leopard”  has just received a silver award at the 2013 International Loupe awards and it was also awarded as commended at the 2013 TPOTY.  It is currently published in a double page spread with an interview at Photographos magazine
Taken in our last safari in Kenya.

Nikon coolpix A. Field test στην Αφρική.

Photo safari June 2013 – Trip report

Our last photo safari in Masai Mara was a memorable experience for all the participants. I was anxious at the beginning since they all were first timers in africa but it turned out a magnificent experience.  I was actually overwhelmed with so many flattering comments for everything they lived  in Kenya.

EPSON Int’l Pano Awards

I am very happy to announce that I won 3 Bronze awards in the 2013 EPSON International Pano Awards.  This was my first entrance in this prestigious competition   as I rarely do panoramic work. Actually this competition was one of only two that I participated this year. I was active in all  major competitions for three years in a raw. This time I had to take a break as I was focused on my printing business and on the organization of the the workshops in Africa. Talking about printing, I do print all my work in my Epson 7900 and I could not be happier!

Here is one of the three awarded images. The other one was the Molon Labe (already published here) and the third one will be revealed soon.
